You also must successfully complete a language proficiency exam.
The online ESL endorsement is designed for those seeking employment or already working as teachers serving the increasing number of English as a Second Language students. This endorsement requires 100 hours of field experience in ESL instruction or three months of teaching experience in an English as a Second Language program.
From 3-D printing and coding to digital literacy and sophisticated video production, the technology finding its way into today鈥檚 classroom presents incredible opportunities. In Dominican鈥檚 LBS I endorsement program, you鈥檒l learn to effectively teach children with a range of intellectual and other disabilities as well as health impairments鈥攎aking an enormous difference in the lives of those students and their families. Classes are held on campus one evening a week.
In our bilingual education and English as a second language programs, we also offer an approval track for teachers who already have a Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement. Dominican University played a pivotal role in preparing me to become a bilingual teacher by providing both a solid academic foundation and a deeply supportive community. Dominican encouraged me to see my students as individuals with unique backgrounds, and it taught me how important it is to approach teaching from a holistic perspective鈥攔ecognizing the cultural, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child. I draw on the skills and values I developed at Dominican every day in my classroom.鈥
