Men's Volleyball Players Commit to Service in Oak Park
Members of Dominican University's men鈥檚 volleyball team took time out this month to help Oak Park residents make a clean sweep of their late autumn yards.
Players on Nov. 17 visited various households to rake leaves and place them in bags for collection. The residents had signed up for the village鈥檚 Leaf Collection Assistance program, which pairs volunteers with residents unable to clear their properties of leaves.
鈥淚t's always great for our young men to give back to our community and help out in any way we can,鈥 said Head Men鈥檚 Volleyball Coach Douglas Burchett. 鈥淥ur guys worked hard and definitely had fun in the process.鈥
Service is ingrained in the team. Each September, for example, players volunteer for LemonAid, a charitable lemonade stand and community event in River Forest that has raised money for selected children's charities for 24 years.
