Alumna Receives Fulbright Award to Teach English in Taiwan

Vanessa Mora MAT '25 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Award to Taiwan. This award will allow Mora to assist local teachers in teaching students English and helping them learn about U.S. culture.
Mora's interest in the ETA Fulbright award stems from a lost opportunity to study abroad in China due to the COVID pandemic. She reported a strong attraction to learning more about Taiwan, based on the country's commitment to bilingualism and a forward-thinking approach to education and global engagement.
Mora most recently worked as middle school multi-language science teacher in Round Lake. Dominican's graduate program in education enabled Mora to work full time while also taking classes to complete her master's degree. Her long-term goals include teaching in high schools in minority-populated districts and pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership to become an administrator, she said.
A bilingual first-generation American, Mora said she aims to support adult language learners, especially those learning English as a second language.
鈥淲e are incredibly proud of Vanessa and thrilled to see her hard work and talent recognized through the Fulbright ETA Award to Taiwan," said Dr. Josephine Sarvis, associate dean of the School of Education at Dominican University. "As a two-time graduate of the School of Education, her achievement is a powerful reflection of her commitment to teaching and service鈥攁nd of the strength of our programs in preparing educators for global impact.鈥
