Dominican University supports Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Investigations in collaboration with Dominican University Faculty Mentors 

  • Through various types of student grants and awards
  • By providing students with the opportunity to disseminate their work at the annual SI (Scholarship and Ideas) held every April and the URSCI Fall Mini Expo. 

URSCI offers year-round application cycles for competitive award/grant opportunities listed below. These are available to all Dominican University undergraduate students with sophomore status and above. Students must have a ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Faculty Mentor. All applications require students and faculty mentors to co-apply via the (self-enrollment is required).

URSCI Student Research Assistant Grant

  • Fall, Spring and Summer
  • Employment based opportunity
  • The Full grant provides funding for a student research assistant working with a faculty member. The student is paid $14/hour for a maximum of $1800 per term (with the expectation of ~128 hours of work).
  • The Mini version of this grant provides funding for a student research assistant working with a faculty member. The student is paid $14/hour for a maximum of $900 per term (with the expectation of ~64 hours of work).
  • This is a faculty driven application but requires both faculty and student to co-apply.
  • Deadlines
    • August 26 (for fall)
    • December 2 (for spring)
    • March 20 (for summer)

  • Fall,  Spring, Summer
  • Financial aid-based award focused on resume building and career discernment research experience.
  • Award provides support for students to collaborate with a faculty mentor on research, scholarship, or creative projects in a field congruent with the students’ career interests. The student must choose/design a project with their faculty mentor and specifying goals and learning outcomes that they can directly apply to their future careers.
  • This is a student driven application but requires both faculty mentor and student to co-apply.
  • Up to $1500 Student Financial Aid Award.
  • For Summer Only: Up to $3000 Student Financial Aid Award is available but will be applied in the fall following the summer experience.

URSCI Summer Scholar Grant

  • Summer
  • The summer grant is awarded to students who want to pursue an individual research project in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Typically, it is expected that the student has already done some work on the project and is in a position to clearly state the goals of the project and establish milestones he/she/they wish to accomplish. The grant awards $3000 to the student and $500 to the faculty mentor who will be working with the student.
  • This is a student driven application but requires both faculty and student to co-apply.
  • Deadline: March 19

URSCI Research or Conference Travel Support Grant

  • This grant provides funds to support the cost of conducting research. The grant reimburses student researchers for material purchases. In addition, students can also apply for financial assistance for travel cost, especially for presenting their work at local or national conferences.
  • Deadline: rolling, year-round

Research for Course Credit

  • All departments can grant course credit for completed department-approved projects.
